Young grizzly bears (Ursos arctos) stay with their mother for two years. Mom usually chases them off in the spring of their third year and then they are on their own. The young adults must find a territory of their own, not an easy task. While bear territories can overlap, if a young juvenile gets in the wrong place at the wrong time, an adult male will likely chase it off, or worse. Young bears may look cute, but they should never be approached as mom is probably nearby.
