Dall sheep (Orvis dalli) are native to subarctic Alaska and western Canada. Lambs are typically born in May. Ewes keep their young in steep terrain above timberline to help protect them from predators such as wolves, coyotes, golden eagles and bears. The lambs can eat vegetation when they are a week old but will nurse throughout the summer. Popular places to see Dall sheep in Alaska include Denali National Park, Kluane National Park (Yukon) and along the cliffs of Seward Highway south of Anchorage.
