Polar bears (Ursus maritimus) are found in Arctic regions throughout the world where they spend much of their lives on the pack ice searching for seals. Polar bears have many adaptations to life in this severe climate including a white coat with dense fur that covers their feet; a short, furry snout; short ears (to conserve heat); and a keen sense of intelligence. Polar bears have been observed hiding their black noses with their paws to further disguise themselves while waiting for seals at the water’s edge.
