Description
Fireweed & Dragonfly
The common fireweed (Epilobium angustifolium) typically grows from two to five feet tall but can reach seven feet in coastal areas. Their colorful pink flowers, blooming in July and August, can be used to make jellies and honey. When the fireweed stops blooming, winter will soon return. Alaska schoolchildren chose the dragonfly as the official state insect.
