Jon Van Zyle describes for the card his inspiration for this painting: “In the early 1920s in Alaska, dog teams were rapidly being replaced by planes for transportation. Early pioneers of Alaska’s skies such as McGee Airlines, Reeve, Eielson, and Merrill are still remembered today. McGee Airlines would grow to become Alaska Airlines.”
