Description
Denali & Ruth Glacier
Denali National Park & Preserve, Alaska
The upper reaches of Ruth Glacier are only three vertical miles below the summit of Denali within Denali National Park & Preserve. As it has wound its way through the Alaska Range through time, it has created the larges gorge in the United States – deeper than even the Grand Canyon. Ruth Glacier is visible to those who fly between Fairbanks and Anchorage, or who enjoy a flightseeing excursion into the area. It is named after the youngest daughter of Frederick Cook, an ethnographer who explored the area in 1903.
