Mushing Alaska
Alaska Range, Alaska
There are few things more iconic about the Alaskan way of life than dog mushing. People use dog teams for subsistence (hunting, fishing, trapping, and hauling firewood), recreation, and competition. While some people still use traditional Siberian huskies, most competitive mushers use a unique breed known as the Alaskan Husky which was bred for endurance, speed, intelligence, and tolerance of extreme weather conditions. Dog mushing is the official state sport for Alaska.
