Description

Clan Entrance

Ketchikan, Alaska

The Wandering Raven House Entrance Pole (pole 4) sits at the entrance to the Clan House in Totem Bight State Historical Park, Ketchikan, Alaska. The totems at the park are from villages abandoned as life in Southeast changed. Starting in 1938, the U.S. Forest Services started using Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) funds to hire skilled carvers from among the older Natives to train younger artisans and restore or replicate the traditional totems. By World War II, the clan house and 15 poles were in place. The site was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.

Printed in Alaska on matte paper that meets the Sustainable Forest Initiative guidelines that promote responsible management of the world’s forest.
