Description
Glacier Meadow
Kenai Fjords National Park
Several large ice fields sit atop the mountain regions throughout southcentral and southeast Alaska. They feed numerous glaciers that descend into the surrounding lowlands and coastal shores. Many of these glaciers meet the ocean as tidewater glaciers and drop huge icebergs into the water. While glaciers pulverized the land during their advancing stage, the slow and gradual recession over time has given way to new plant colonization that now colors the surrounding hillsides that were once laden with ice.
