Description
Tongass Sentinel
Southeast, Alaska
An American bald eagle stands watch at the Anan Wildlife Observatory in the Tongass National Forest for the opportunity to feed on salmon scraps left behind by feeding black and brown bears. The Tongass National Forest is home to over 100,000 American bald eagles, representing the largest population in the world. This population size is due largely to the abundant salmon present in the ecosystem, which feeds not only wildlife but nurtures the forest itself.
