Winter Snack
Anchorage, Alaska
A Bohemian waxwing snacks on a mountain ash berry in mid-January. Bohemian waxwings will flock by the hundreds during winter in Southcentral Alaska, picking off berry-producing trees. By the time the waxwings eat these berries, the fruit has been fermenting for several months. As a result, the waxwings will often get “drunk” on the berries, making them Alaska’s true party animal.
